My designs are individual, hand drawn plans produced as a result of careful listening and understanding of the client's styles and wishes, excellent plant knowledge, local knowledge, a clear way of communicating ideas to the client and many years of experience.

I qualified in 1993 with a BSc in horticulture, and have worked all my life in the horticultural industry. I further qualified, with a distinction in a Post Graduate diploma in Garden Design from the British Academy of Garden Design in 2020, and then in 2026 was accepted into membership as a consultant member of The Gardener's Guild, for which the minimum acceptance criteria is amongst the highest in horticulture.

 

My hand-drawn plans begin with a concept plan in which ideas about how the proposed garden might look are communicated with a scale drawing. This is followed with a working plan which includes all the details required for the build, including materials specifications and a detailed planting plan.

I work with a wide range of garden styles:

•  small cottage gardens

•  wildlife gardens

•  contemporary garden rooms 

•  gardens for evening entertainment

•  peaceful areas for contemplation

•  seaside gardens

•  tough planting surrounding children’s play areas;

•  front gardens

•  large formal gardens

•  public areas

 

Much of my earlier work was in the Swindon and north Wiltshire area, but I now live in North Powys, and have been designing gardens in North Wales; Shropshire, Cheshire, The Midlands and the North of England for the last 11 years.

Although in most cases I visit the garden at least once during the design process, I am very happy to work from accurate plans, photographs and telephone conversation  or E mail to create a design.
